Towards Static Analysis of Policy-Based Self-adaptive Computing Systems

For supporting the design of self-adaptive computing systems, the PSCEL language offers a principled approach that relies on declarative definition of adaptation and authorisation policies enforced at runtime. Policies permit managing system components by regulating their interactions and by dynamically introducing new actions to accomplish task-oriented goals. However, the runtime evaluation of policies and their effects on system components make the prediction of system behaviour challenging. In this paper, we introduce the construction of a flow graph that statically points out the policy evaluations that can take place at runtime and exploit it to analyse the effects of policy evaluations on the progress of system components.
